We’re asking the whole community to have a #Scoutlook on Life and do a good turn (good deed) on Scouting’s Anniversary, February 8. To help build that spirit of service community-wide, we’re asking everyone to share good turns you or others have done on social media using the hashtag #Scoutlook
We're celebrating Scouting’s 109th Anniversary with a short three day campaign (2/6 - 2/8) encouraging everyone to take a “ScoutLook on Life” and to do a good deed for others on February 8. This is something our Scouts try to do every day (which we call “good turns”) as part of our Scout Oath “….to help other people at all times” and Scout Slogan "Do a good turn daily". We're asking leaders and members to help spread the word, supported by social media, radio, electronic billboards and digital display ads.
To raise awareness we have once again partnered with iHeartMEDIA. Our marketing campaign can be heard on a variety of platforms including KDWB, K102 and more. On the radio and on their websites, iHeart will be celebrating with us leading up to February 8. We’ll hear from DJs like Dave Ryan, who have been involved with Scouts in their personal lives, and how important helping others is to them. This campaign will generate lots of good turns and remind the community that “helping other people” is what Scouting is all about!
Meet the Scoutmaster Who Climbed Everest, Twice!
Spearheading our effort is Anish Luitel, a young Scout leader from Nepal who carried out some of the world’s highest good turns by carrying U.S. Scouting flags to the top of Mount Everest – twice! – to help promote International Scouting. He connected with some of our Ham Lake Scouts and leaders via social media several years ago and they provided the flag he carried to the summit. Anish is one of only 543 individuals in the world who have summited from both sides of Everest.
Anish is in town and will be sharing his story, photos and video as well as showing the well-traveled flag on Scouting’s Anniversary, Friday, February 8 from 7 – 8 PM at our Northern Star Scouting Base Camp (6202 Bloomington Road, Fort Snelling). It is free and open to all to cap a day of good deeds.
Also on February 8, we will be serving cookies and beverages to visitors in the Leadership Center Atrium during business hours to celebrate Scouting service in front of our "Friday Fire" in the massive fireplace. Happy Scouting Anniversary to All!
